The Higg Index, developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), is the most widely adopted sustainability measurement framework in the global fashion industry. The Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM) assesses manufacturing facility environmental performance across seven areas: environmental management systems, energy use and GHG emissions, water use, wastewater, emissions to air, waste management, and chemical management. For Indonesian textile and garment manufacturers supplying international brands, Higg FEM completion — and increasingly third-party verification — has become a standard qualification requirement rather than a differentiating feature.
Build or strengthen data collection systems for energy, water, wastewater, chemical, and waste monitoring. Train facility team on accurate FEM data collection methodology and evidence documentation requirements.
Support implementation of priority operational improvements identified in gap analysis. Monitor performance data to verify improvement impact on FEM scores.
Conduct pre-verification internal audit of FEM documentation and data quality. Prepare facility team for third-party verifier engagement. Coordinate Higg FEM verification process and address verifier findings.
